Zine & Music Video, Accompanying Album Rollout
KeyzVango approached me ahead of his album LATE’s release, looking for a cohesive visual identity and physical companion piece that could elevate the rollout with the challenge to translate the album’s emotional depth, layered storytelling, and experimental production into a multidimensional visual experience that honored each track while connecting them through a unified narrative arc.
I proposed a holistic visual system that would span both digital and physical mediums: a continuous visual album (LATE; The Film) paired with a tactile companion zine. This approach aimed to mirror the project’s themes of introspection and transformation, while providing fans with multiple entry points into the album’s world. Together, these elements formed a cinematic, editorially-rich experience that rewarded close attention and deepened emotional resonance.
To guide the visual direction, I created a series of detailed moodboards to reflect the distinct emotion, tone, and palette of an individual song. These boards became the blueprint for the set design, cinematography, and layout choices, ensuring every visual element resonated with the music’s atmosphere.
To bring LATE to life visually, I began by immersing myself in the album, listening to each track while discussing the stories and emotional undercurrents with KeyzVango. From there, I developed moodboards for each song to guide the visual tone, color palette, and overall atmosphere. These moodboards became the foundation for art direction across both the short film and the companion zine, influencing set design, cinematography, and layout decisions.
I wrote and art directed LATE; The Film, an eight-part visual journey that mirrors the album’s introspective arc. Alongside it, I designed a printed zine as a tactile extension of the film, featuring lyrics, behind-the-scenes insights, visual breakdowns, and hidden details that reward deeper engagement. Together, these pieces created a unified narrative world that bridged music, film, and design.
